CJ Darcl inducts its first heavy-duty electric vehicle in partnership with Volvo for sustainable cargo movement

NEW DELHI: CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd. (CJ Darcl), one of India’s leading integrated logistics solutions providers, in partnership with Volvo, has taken a significant step forward in its sustainability journey with the induction of its first heavy-duty Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). The partnership marks a transition from pilot initiatives to higher-capacity electric logistics operations and a shared commitment to advancing sustainable and future-ready logistics solutions.

The newly inducted vehicle holds distinct prominence. It is the first heavy-duty BEV in CJ Darcl’s portfolio. It is also the third heavy-duty BEV that Volvo Trucks have launched in India, which makes CJ Darcl, among the first companies in India to implement this technology.

“Sustainability is becoming central to how logistics networks are designed and operated. With this induction, we are moving towards integrating cleaner technologies into mainstream operations. As the industry evolves, we, at CJ DARCL Logistics, are on a mission to become a carbon-neutral company. By promoting sustainable practices, we are actively working towards achieving this goal while setting an example for the logistics industry.,” said Nikhil Agarwal, President, CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd.

Building on its 2024 initiative under the theme “Driving Towards a Greener Tomorrow,” CJ Darcl deployed electric vehicles for intra-city aftermarket supply in Bengaluru, establishing the feasibility of electric mobility within its logistics network. The induction of a heavy-duty BEV now extends this approach to higher-capacity operations. Developed over 18 months, the collaboration with Volvo Trucks involved detailed technical, route, payload, and integration assessments. Volvo’s expertise in electric powertrains, along with its established presence in the Indian commercial vehicle market, provided the confidence and operational support required to transition heavy-duty electric freight into live operations, reflecting a calibrated approach to adoption with a clear focus on readiness and long-term viability.

With this induction, CJ Darcl advances its interim decarbonisation strategy focused on measuring, reporting, and reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. The integration of electric mobility into its multimodal network reflects a shift towards low-emission logistics, aligned with global frameworks, while supporting customers’ sustainability goals and India’s carbon reduction ambitions.
