Hapag-Lloyd suspends Strait of Hormuz Transits amid Security Closure

HAMBURG: Due to the conflict in the Middle East and the official closure of the Strait of Hormuz (SOH) by relevant authorities amid the evolving security situation in the region, Hapag-Lloyd is suspending all vessel transits through the waterway until further notice, the company said in a Trade Advisory.

The carrier emphasized that the safety of crews, vessels, and cargo remains its highest priority, noting that the suspension is not discretionary but a necessary response to current conditions. Hapag-Lloyd confirmed that its teams are closely monitoring developments, which continue to evolve rapidly, while maintaining ongoing coordination with authorities and security partners.

The disruption is expected to impact services calling ports across the Arabian Gulf, with potential delays, rerouting, or scheduling changes. The company stated that efforts are underway to minimize operational disruption and committed to communicating any significant updates to affected shipments as soon as possible.

Customers with cargo already in transit, or with planned shipments to or from the region, are advised to contact their local Hapag-Lloyd representative for shipment-specific guidance as the situation develops.

Hapag-Lloyd expressed appreciation for customers’ understanding and continued trust during this period of heightened operational uncertainty.
