Road Transport Sector faces severe disruptions; AITWA seeks Industry Support

MUMBAI: The All India Transporters’ Welfare Association (AITWA) has highlighted severe operational disruptions currently affecting the road transport sector across India, impacting fleet availability, transit timelines, and service reliability.

The disruptions are attributed to multiple factors, including diesel shortages, non-availability and rising cost of DEF (AdBlue), reduced cargo volumes, shortage of workshop inputs, and overall supply chain uncertainty.

Due to these challenges, transporters are experiencing reduced fleet utilization, increased idle time, and rising operational costs.

AITWA has requested customers and trade partners to:

  • Temporarily suspend long-term contracted freight rates until at least 30th April 2026
  • Operate shipments on mutually agreed spot market rates
  • Ensure timely clearance of outstanding payments to ease financial stress

“This is an unprecedented situation, comparable to a Covid-like disruption, and requires collective support from all stakeholders to ensure continuity of supply chains,” said Mr. Abhishek A Gupta, General Secretary, AITWA.

The association reiterated its commitment to maintaining cargo movement and supporting trade while navigating the current challenges.
